05 Jul What is Holistic Health?
Holistic Health is actually an approach to life. Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. It emphasises the connection of mind, body, and spirit. *American Holistic Health Organisation
There are three general types of ‘health’ – physical health, mental health and spiritual health. We usually treat each one separately as though they are not related…for instance, we might see a psychologist for mental health, a doctor for our physical health and a healer for our spiritual health.
When we heal holistically, we address imbalances on all levels, rather than one or two, and so it becomes a life-long process in achieving overall life balance. The ultimate goal of aligning the body, mind and soul promises a happier, healthier, more balanced state of being.
Principles of Treating Holistically
Treat the whole person; mind, body, spirit; not the disease. This is the holistic approach.
Everyone has their own intrinsic healing abilities.
Healing is a team effort involving both the patient and practitioner, and addresses all aspect’s of the patient’s life using a variety of health care practices.
Treatment involves repairing the cause of the condition, not just alleviating the symptoms.
